Highlighting April 2025: Leadership in Environmental Compliance, Risk Management, and Sustainability4/25/2025
At CHESIEMES Group, our commitment to sustainability and environmental risk management continues to shape our presence on key industry platforms. This month of April 2025, our lead engineer, who also serves as President of the Risk, Emergency and Disaster Management Commission (CMRED) and has served as Past President of the Environmental Engineers Institute (IIAM, in Spanish) at the Professional College of Engineers and Land Surveyors (CIAPR, in Spanish), Hanna Rodríguez, PE, CSP, was invited to speak at two major events that reflect the scope and depth of our firm’s capabilities. ![]() At the 2025 National Watershed and Stormwater Conference, hosted by the Center for Watershed Protection, Hanna shared practical lessons from our team’s on-the-ground experience with Construction General Permits (CGP) and Multi-Sector General Permits (MSGP). Her session, titled “Adapting Stormwater Compliance to a Changing Climate: Lessons from CGP and MSGP Implementation in Tropical Watersheds”, emphasized the importance of tailoring stormwater compliance strategies to Puerto Rico’s unique climate challenges—highlighting our firm’s role in promoting sustainable watershed management through real-world applications. The experience served for productive and engaging dialogue with colleagues, focusing on a concept our team is interested in evaluating for the future: the potential of stormwater infrastructure as a utility. ![]() As a newly certified Sustainability Practitioner, Hanna also engaged in the "Environmental Emergencies and Sustainability: Road Map for Prevention" forum, hosted by Access All Services at the Aloft Hotel in San Juan. This event allowed for direct networking with other professionals committed to advancing environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) goals, and it further strengthened our team's capacity to deliver forward-thinking, sustainable solutions for our clients. Most recently, the educational event "Cada Segundo Cuenta en el Manejo de una Emergencia", organized by the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce this past Thursday, April 24, 2025, Hanna participated in the panel on Mental Health and Risk Management. Representing both our firms and the CIAPR CMRED, she offered insight into how our multidisciplinary team integrates emergency preparedness, disaster response, and occupational health protocols to support public and private sector resilience. From stormwater solutions to strategic emergency planning, these events showcased our team’s leadership in shaping safer, sustainable, and climate-adaptive practices—true to our mission of delivering integrated environmental engineering and risk management services across Puerto Rico and beyond. At CHESIEMES Group, we remain committed to preparing our communities and industries for a resilient and sustainable future, one project and one conversation at a time. 🌎
